We’re looking forward to another Family Retreat back at Bassenfell Manor in the Lake District. Open to everyone of all ages, we are returning once again to what has proved to be a popular, well-equipped venue for a start-to-the-year weekend of encouragement, aimed at recharging ourselves after the hectic holiday season!

The Registration Form is available here.

Unlike our Study Weekends, this will be the opposite of intense, and will offer a peaceful retreat in a beautiful corner of England within a relaxed, welcoming family atmosphere. Places are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Activities to include:
  • Quality time with those of like faith
  • Times of praise and reflection (including early morning devotions)
  • Lessons from the words of the Teacher
  • Small group learning sessions for all ages
  • Good food and mealtimes together
  • Beautiful countryside
  • Saturday evening activity
  • Fun times as a family of believers
Accommodation

Ariel_Manor rBassenfell Manor was built in 1842 by William Rathbone VI as a country residence for the Rathbone family. They were were devout Quakers, William Rathbone being a very close friend of Florence Nightingale. Basil Rathbone the actor (famous for his portrayal as Sherlock Holmes) was connected with Bassenfell and he probably spent some holidays at the manor, but never actually lived there (at least not on a permanent basis).

William Rathbone made his wealth from shipping in Liverpool, and the house has many nautical features. The wing containing bedrooms 1-5 looks like the bridge of a ship and the middle and top corridors as the decks. So, all aboard!

There are large meeting rooms and dining room on the ground floor. Sleeping accommodation is on the first and second floors in rooms sleeping from 2 to 5 people. Most rooms are ensuite, but those which are not have their own private bath/shower rooms. If you have any special accommodation needs, please contact us before making a booking.

Group photo 2bThere will be a total number of just 69 places available for the weekend, available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to join us, please complete the Registration Form (here).

The cost for the weekend will be £75 per person – this is a bargain! This is all inclusive and includes accommodation, food and bedding. Children from 5 to 16 years old and sharing with their parents are half-price. Under 5s are free.
